The Decisive Moment

"Photography is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event as well as of a precise organization of forms which give that event it's proper expression... Through the art of living, the discovery of oneself is made concurrently with the discovery of the world around us, which can mold us, but which can also be affected by us."
-Henri Cartier-Bresson-

Big Walk 2006

Joined the Nikon Shootout for the New Paper Big Walk 2006. This will be the 16th and the last time at the National Stadium before it undergoes renovation.

The last time I went for the Big Walk was with Juan and Keow in the 90s (can't remember which year). But I'll never forget how they deserted me to walk 10km alone!!!

A Fable of Rusty Railings

I have been wanting to post this ever since Polling Day was announced. The estate that I lived in was going through a very 'coincidental' renovation when this struck me. The Town Council had informed us that a 'renovation' or 'upgrading' would be carried out. Concrete screeds and tiles will be replaced together with a new coat of paint to 'freshen' up the estate. After the 'renovation', I noticed:

Tiles were replaced with ones of the exact same design and colour. And the 'old' tiles were actually fitted not more than 2 years ago. The finishings on the concrete screeds and the paint jobs were poorly done. You can see the rough edges and sloppy strokes.

Worst of all, this railing outside my flat.

What is the point of trying to paint something that has rusted so badly??? Shouldn't it be replaced? Just like the organisation that used OUR money to do such a screwed job, "no matter how many layers of paint you use to cover it, the rotten core will show itself eventually".

上羊与佩恩

Congrats!

One of the nicest couple I've ever met.

It was a great honour for me to cover their wedding.

The Photographer and the Chef

This is an analogy I like to tell people in a "situation" that I sometimes come across...

------------

Once, there was a class reunion at one of a classmate's house who was a well-known chef. He invited the class to his place so that he could show off his trophies and his cooking. And he succeeded. Everyone was impressed.

After dinner, the class gathered in the living room to chat and found out that one of them had became a photographer. So they asked him what kind of photographs he had taken. He pointed out a few fashion magazines on the couch and told them his works were in it. True enough, his name appeared as the magnum photograher and chief art director as they flipped through pages and pages of beautiful and artistic photos in the magazines. There were plenty of 'ooh's and 'aah's.

The chef began to feel jealous as he was losing the limelight. So he asked sarcastically,

"Wow... these are really fantastic pictures! I bet you must have a very good camera..."

The photographer knew where he was coming from and he coolly replied, "Thanks! Same to you... dinner was fabulous and the cuisines were simply delicious!"

"I bet you must have a very good wok."

Guess what I saw at PS?

Super cool-looking car right? It just makes you wanna go, "Yeah baby! Yeah!" that kind of 'retro' feeling hor?
From the funky-orange tinted glass to the retro-white interior... the "No.76" door lock, the dash board, the car speakers... hell, even the WHITE In-vehicle Unit (IU) looks sweeeet! This is the FIRST time I have ever seen a white IU before. Rather than all the dull grey-coloured ones we usually see. AND... I have to commend him for his 'audacity'. He not scared that all the TP in Singapore 'mark' him meh?
If there's a "poll" (pun intended) for the 'Coolest/Funkiest/Most Retro-Looking Car in Singapore', I'll definitely cast my "vote" (more pun) for this car. Hmm... maybe I'll do it this Sat. I'll draw a car and mark an 'X' beside it instead of the Hammer or Lightning.
