My Deepest Impression of Hong Kong
The deepest impression of HK has got to be it's people. By that, I'm referring to the way they carry themselves, the way they communicate, the way they dress, how they commute, their attitude i.e. their way of life.
Generally, I find the middle to younger generation of the HK population pretty well dressed. At least way better than Singaporeans. I supposed that is why HK is considered one of the fashion capitals of Asia. When I hit the street, I found it familiar to what I saw in Japan. The ladies are wearing cosmetics almost all the time (I supposed it's also to protect them from the weather), preen and pretty in their designer dress, boots, coats and LV/Gucci bags (I MUST emphasize the LV/Gucci bags and I think these 2 labels must be their favourites cos I see them all the time). The guys are sporting trendy hairdos with pearly white teeth in their smart street apparels. I also noticed that most of them dun wear spectacles (contact lenses?).
And does the people in HK ever sleep?!? The first night that I arrived in HK, Kaiqi brought us out for dinner and we had steamboat past 1 a.m!!! Still there were hordes of people queuing and eating. I am not talking about party goers going for suppers. I am talking about families with young kids and grandparents! And there's the dessert stalls... the shopping past 12mn... the crowd on the street... it's crazy!!!
If there's anything I dun like HK about, it would be their attitude and pace of life. I thought Singaporeans are arrogant enough and our pace of life too hectic... but after I experienced HK... I was actually going, 'woah... who hit the fast forward button?'. The waitress won't wait two more seconds for your order, the driver cannot tolerate traffic standing still, hesitating is a SIN and Cantonese comes first (much like French).
Hong Kong is a fantastic place to visit every now and then but not suitable to live and work in. At least not for me.

very good observations, same sentiments exactly.
1) HK's fashion sense*****
sg is more den 1 season behind them in fashion and they carry the latest styles so well!
2) 不夜城...no doubt abt it.
i love how late the shops stay open until. HK ppl work much harder den us so it's great tat shops are still open at 12am and there's plenty of food.
i seriously suspect tat there dun usually sleep a lot in HK.
the mtr is still packed at 1 am. cool!
3) altitude*****
i m impressed by how indifferent they are to ang mohs especially considering their colonial background till not so long ago (not even 10 yrs since it returned to china!)
and they are consistent! they conduct their business in cantonese even if there're ang mohs in the room. u wana do business wif them, better learn cantonese. and i'm toking abt the MNCs!
compared to when i went there 6 yrs ago, they are a lot more tolerate to chinese speaking moi.
in the past, the stall owners in 女人街 would ignore moi.
nowadays, they would oblige and serve moi too. thanks to all the visitors from china!
one point to correct though...the white teeth is definitely from bleaching coz they drink a lot of milk tea tat turns their teeth yellowish
tis observation is confirmed by marie after her 6 mths stint in hk.
